Creek Golf course on Friday, April 27th and the festivities will culminate with a banquet, auction and comedy show at the AT&T Center on Friday night.  More than 1,000 people will join us for a fun time and to help a good cause.

The proceeds of the Lone Star Classic benefit the Lone Star Paralysis Foundation (LSPF) a non-profit organization, based in Austin. The LSPF funds a variety of projects including the Recovery Center at the University Medical Center at Brackenridge and other projects including SCI research through The University of Texas, Colorado University, Rutgers University, and others.  The funds raised through the Lone Star Classic have begun to improve the lives of those who have been injured and their families in Central Texas.

Research requires little explanation. By diligently examining research efforts the Foundation is able to identify initiatives that show the most promise for a cure and can be expedited with funding available from the Foundation.
Recovery refers to recovery therapy. In the year 2000, the word, “recovery” was not used in regard to paralysis from spinal cord injury Thanks to the forward thinking of University Medical Center Brackenridge with funding from the Lone Star Paralysis Foundation, a third piece is now available – trauma, rehabilitation, and now recovery.

Recovery therapy patients undergo an intensive 3 month therapy regimen featuring the latest high-tech equipment to stimulate and strengthen muscles, improve cardiovascular function, and retrain movement. Some have regained their ability to walk, almost everyone benefits from meaningful improvement. Thanks in part to the success of the Recovery program at UMC Brackenridge, recovery programs are springing up across the country.

Recreation is not only important to the quality of life for those living with a spinal cord injury, it is critical to their health and well being. The Lone Star Paralysis Foundation funds various adaptive (wheel chair) sports programs from basketball and tennis to kayaking and scuba diving. Additionally, much of the equipment purchased by the Foundation and placed in the Recovery Center is made available to anyone with a spinal cord injury through the community program.

The Lone Star Paralysis Foundation is able to fund these three “R” initiatives by being innovative in its fundraising methods, frugal in the administration of the foundation, and creative in the way it provides funding.

The Lone Star Paralysis Foundation is working to continue to grow and move the clock forward on a cure.  New fundraising initiatives are being planned and new research is being sought. Austin receives around 135 new spinal cord injuries a year. In almost every instance the injured is a young, healthy, active person living life to the fullest when disaster strikes. Their stories are invariably tales of courage and inspiration. The board of the Lone Star Paralysis Foundation will continue to donate our time and treasure toward the goal of making paralysis from spinal cord injury only a temporary injury.

There are many ways to help us continue the 33 year tradition of The Lone Star Classic, you can attend any or all of the events, donate items for our silent auction, or volunteer at any of our events.

Please contact our Executive Director, Mike Haynes at Mike@lonestarparalysis.org  or 512-673-7823.  Please see our website (www.lonestarparalysis.org) for information about The Lone Star Classic.

am sad that you can't make the banquet, there will be a pretty special moment for one of your friends - the one that got you exposed to us in the first place (Daniel).  If you wanted to sneak in about 8:30 to 9:15 you would see the best part.

I really need your reporters name and tell her she can bring a friend if she would like.

The food on the course is going to be really cool.  We have 8 people supplying. Remember that most golf courses simply put out a sandwhich or a hot dog, not us.

The food will come from:

Jack Allen's Kitchen

Vivo

El Arroyo

Cover 2

Cookwell and Company - (HEB's specialty foods) They are doing frito pie

John Zamora - (works for Glazers, can't play golf this year but is making street tacos instead)

Hinospices - one of our friends has started a spice company and has offered to cook for us

Tim Owen's Grill - One of our friend's who has had spinal issues in the past traditionally cooks burgers and sausage for us

Looking forward to seeing you, you are one of our favorites!
